H037 - Dairy Herd Manager - South West
An exceptional opening has arisen for a hands on Dairy Herd Manager. Our client is seeking a candidate to manage a progressive and profitable dairy herd and to maintain the highest standards of husbandry and management. Milking takes place twice a day through a new GEA 20:40 swing over parlour complete with auto ID and backflush system.
Working alongside the Dairy Manager (who is running the four dairy farms) and dairy consultant.
Work closely with the vet and AI technician to meet fertility targets.
Follow and develop the dairy protocols in conjunction with the Farm Manager.
Ensure cows are properly fed.
Manage cows at grass, monitoring grass growth rates and cover using the Agrinet system.
Manage a team of three staff and delegate daily duties.
Maintain animal health and welfare to a high standard - with assistance from staff or vets as required.
Achieve various production targets set for the herd.
Ensure all paperwork and computerised records are completed in a timely manner.
Maintain a clean and tidy work environment
Several years of dairy herd management experience with a passion for the industry.
An agricultural qualification. Desirable, but not essential.
Foot trimming experience.
Good communication skills.
Able to work with, contribute to and enforce protocols.
The ability to lead and motivate a small team and pay attention to detail.
A good understanding and knowledge of: herd fertility, dairy nutrition and cow health.
The ability to manage grassland and forage to maximise herd performance.
Well organised and proactive.
